Applications for Geothermal
Geothermal or ground source heat pumps are offered in a wide variety of options to handle just about every situation.
- Forced Air Heating and Cooling utilizing a water-to-air heat pump and conventional ductwork for conditioned air distribution.
- Hydronic radiant floor (and possibly snowmelt) heating utilizing a water-to-water heat pump. The same heat pump has the capability to also chill water for cooling, however you must utilize a fan coil in conjunction with the chilled water for cooling through a ducted forced air system.
- Domestic hot water – Partial water heating through the desuperheater/hot water generator option, which can be installed on any of the various types of geothermal heat pumps, or full domestic water heating utilizing a water-to-water heat pump. Some brands of heat pumps may even have on demand water heating capabilities.
- Pool/spa water heating utilizing a water-to-water heat pump.
- Dual fuel systems utilizing either a, new or existing, fossil fuel furnace and a geothermal split system for forced air heating and cooling plus backup fossil fuel.
- Hi-Velocity ducted forced air systems with either hydronic or refrigerant coils connected to the geothermal heat pump system providing both heating and cooling.
- Plus, there are many other applications where geothermal heat pumps can be utilized.
The other great thing about geothermal heat pumps is that they are easily scalable. That means that they can be utilized in all sizes of buildings from:
- small residential homes, cabins, and multi-family structures
- Schools & Institutional buildings
- Office Buildings large or small
- Shopping malls and stores
- Manufacturing facilities
- Goverment buildings, town halls, Justice Centers, etc.
- including the largest project in the country where an entire university campus has been converted to geothermal heating and cooling
- and everything in between
… so with geothermal technology all consumers of energy can take advantage of the many benefits it has to offer.
